In Support of Maine’s Tourism Industry, King Joins Senate Tourism Caucus

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today announced that he has joined the Senate Tourism Caucus, an informal group of his Senate colleagues who work with industry and relevant federal agencies to promote tourism by reviewing and exploring important policy goals. As a member of the bipartisan group, Senator King will work to promote Maine’s tourism industry, a major driver of the state’s economy that generates more than $2 billion in household earnings and supports more than 80,000 jobs in the state.

“With the snowstorm bearing down on Maine right now, it may not be at the forefront of our minds, but any Mainer will tell you, the beauty and serenity of our state is truly unmatched,” Senator King said. “All year long, tourists come to Maine to enjoy our picturesque mountains, iconic coastline, and warm hospitality – all of which help make Maine ‘the way life should be.’ Indeed, tourism is one of the cornerstones of the Maine economy, supporting thousands of important jobs and helping communities to thrive. As a member of the Senate Tourism Caucus, I look forward to working with my colleagues to further the interests of Maine’s tourism industry.”

Congressional caucuses are informal groups of members that share a common interest in a particular issue where the group members work together to advance that issue. The Senate Tourism Caucus will focus on issues like improving the country’s infrastructure network and promoting aviation safety and efficiency, among others.

The co-chairs of the Senate Tourism Caucus are Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Roy Blunt (R-Missouri), Mark Kirk (R-Illinois), and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii). Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) is also a member of the caucus.
