King Hails Passage of VA Reform Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement today applauding the passage of the Veterans' Access to Care through Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act of 2014, a bipartisan, bicameral compromise crafted by  Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), the co-chairmen of the Senate and House Veterans’ Affairs Conference Committee:

“It’s time for a new day at the VA, and this bill will shepherd in much-needed accountability and reform,” Senator King said. “It’s an old joke around here that the other party is your loyal opposition while the other side of the Hill is your sworn enemy. Some days that joke feels truer than others, but when it came to taking care of our veterans, Senator Bernie Sanders and Congressman Jeff Miller forged a smart, reform-driven, bipartisan, bicameral bill that I was proud to support and that’s right for our veterans. Now it’s time for Congress to work closely with Secretary McDonald to see those reforms through and ensure that we live up to the promise our nation made to our men and women who have served in uniform.”

The Veterans' Access to Care through Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act will now go to the President’s desk for signature. For more on the bill, click HERE.
