Collins, King Announce $1.1 Million for Veterans Memorial Cemetery

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded $1.1 million to the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. The funds will be used to support expansion and improvement efforts at the cemetery grounds and allow for continued burial services for veterans and their families.

“We are pleased to see these funds awarded to the State," Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “These additional funds will help to ensure that we can continue to uphold our solemn obligation to honor the service and sacrifice of our state's veterans and their families.”

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Maine is home to 127,694 veterans, which is one of the highest percentages per capita of any state in the country.
