U.S Senators Collins and King Announce more than $157,000 for Criminal Justice Initiatives in Three Maine Cities

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the cities of Portland, Bangor, and Augusta will receive a total of $157,034 from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The funds will be used to support officer training, technology upgrades, and the purchase of law enforcement equipment.

“The brave men and women of Maine’s police departments who serve and protect our cities and towns each and every day deserve our full support,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “These awards will allow some of our state’s largest police departments to enhance training and upgrade equipment, increasing safety for police officers and members of the community.

The breakdown of JAG recipients in Maine are as follows:

• The City of Augusta will receive $44,680.

• The City of Bangor will receive $23,948.

• The City of Portland will receive $88,406.

The JAG funds were awarded through the Bureau for Justice Assistance, a component of the Office of Justice Programs within the U.S. Department of Justice.
