This Week in Washington: Arctic Trip, Letter to Education Secretary, Maine Calling, Unemployment Insurance, Honoring Muskie

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of his ongoing effort to keep the people of Maine up to date with his work in Washington, U.S. Senator Angus King sat down to discuss this week’s events in the nation’s capital.

In his weekly address Senator King discussed:

  • His recent trip to the Arctic where he spent 20 hours aboard the USS NEW MEXICO, a VIRGINIA-class, nuclear powered, attack submarine.
  • A letter he sent to Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, urging him to consider one of Maine’s educational pilot programs as a model of innovation for the Experimental Sites Initiative.
  • His interview with MPBN’s Maine Calling.
  • The advancement of legislation in the Senate on Thursday to renew critical emergency unemployment benefits.
  • The remarkable legacy of Maine Senator Ed Muskie who would have turned 100 years old today.
