Sens. Collins, King Announce That Casco Bay Lines to Receive More Than $2.5 Million for Terminal Renovations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins, Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, and U.S. Senator Angus King announced today that Casco Bay Lines will receive $2,560,000 to help fund Phase II of the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal Renovation.  The funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Passenger Ferry Grant Program.

“Casco Bay Lines serves approximately one million passengers each year and is a critical link for residents and visitors traveling between the Casco Bay islands and the mainland,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement.  “The ferry terminal renovation project will help Casco Bay Lines continue to provide reliable ferry service as well as alleviate congestion, increase efficiency, and improve passengers’ experience.”

Phase II of the Casco Bay Lines Terminal Improvements project will enhance the safety and manageability of the terminal, which is outdated and serving more than double the number of individuals it was originally designed to handle.  The renovations will help streamline passenger, vehicular, and freight movements and improve the vessel maintenance areas for Casco Bay Lines’ fleet.

This project was selected on a competitive basis from the Passenger Ferry Grant Program, which was announced in July 2014.  The funding will allow Casco Bay Lines to proceed with site work, development of a traffic management plan, completion of the terminal renovation, and structural work under the pier.
