Senators Collins, King Announce Nearly $1 Million in Grants Supporting the Arts in Maine

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will award a total of $990,900 in grant funding to entities in Maine that foster artistic creativity and innovation in their communities.  These grants will support a wide range of artistic endeavors, including public art, museum exhibits, and performances.

“Maine is fortunate to have so many excellent organizations committed to developing and maintaining the arts,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “These NEA grants will help magnify that creative spirit and strengthen the fabric of Maine’s communities in the process.”

The full list of Maine awardees is below:

  • $748,900 to the Maine Arts Commission to support Partnership Agreement activities.
  • $50,000 to LA Arts to support Lewiston Auburn: A Place for Makers: Past, Present, and Future - Transformation through artisan-based manufacturing.
  • $30,000 to Portland Ovations to support the Seeking Resonance performing arts series.
  • $30,000 to the William A. Farnsworth Library & Art Museum, Inc. in Rockland to support a retrospective exhibition and catalogue on Maine artist Marguerite Zorach (1887-1968).
  • $30,000 to Waterfall Arts in Belfast to support design services for Waterfall Rising.
  • $25,000 to the President and Trustees of Colby College in Waterville to support the exhibition, educational programming, and catalogue for "Marsden Hartley's Maine."
  • $25,000 to the City of Portland to support public art commissions and the redesign of Congress Square Park.
  • $12,000 to Cultural Resources, Inc. in Rockport to support One Life / Many Stories. Folklorist Kathleen Mundell will explore the relationship between healthy aging and traditional arts.
  • $10,000 to the City of Portland to support the Young Writers and Leaders Program.
  • $10,000 to the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront to support the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront.
  • $10,000 to the Penobscot Theatre Company in Bangor to support "Transformer Tales: Origin Stories of the Penobscot Nation," an Imagine Your Parks project.
  • $10,000 to the Seal Bay Festival in Vinalhaven to support the summer chamber music festival.
