Senators Collins, King Announce Funding Awards for Two Maine Airports

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, and Senator Angus King announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Knox County Regional Airport and DeWitt Field, Old Town Municipal Field more than $3.5 million in grant funding.

“Maine's large geographic area makes air travel an important transportation option to connect towns and cities across the state,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Maine's airports play a vital role in supporting local businesses, especially in the state's more rural regions. This funding will help make necessary improvements and maintain a safe operational environment at our airports.”

The awards – totaling $3,834,000 – and recipients are as follows:

·         $1,768,500 for  Dewitt Field, Old Town Municipal Field
·         $2,065,500 for Knox County Regional Airport

The funds will be used for reconstruction of existing runways at both airports, as current pavement has reached the end of its useable life.
