King, Collins Statement Celebrating National Lobster Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In honor of National Lobster Day, U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King released the following statement:

“We are pleased to join with Mainers in celebrating National Lobster Day to recognize the tremendous impact that the lobster industry has in our great state,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “Lobster not only represents a source of pride for our coastal and island communities, but it also symbolizes the steadfast work ethic of Maine people and is a cornerstone of our economy.”

National Lobster Day is the result of a resolution introduced by Senators Collins and Senator King in July and passed by the Senate in August to recognize lobster’s prominent place in the culture and economy of the United States. The resolution was also co-sponsored by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.).

The White House will also serve lobster tonight at the State Dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping.
