King Attends Dedication of Ezra Smith Wildlife Conservation Area

The land, which was gifted to the Kennebec Land Trust, will ensure that future generations have the opportunity to learn about conservation.

MOUNT VERNON, ME – Today,  U.S. Senator Angus King attended an event to celebrate the dedication of land to the Kennebec Land Trust in honor of Ezra Smith, a dedicated outdoorsman and lifetime resident of Maine who passed away in 2014. The 125 acres of land will be called the Ezra Smith Wildlife Conservation Area, and will be preserved for current and future generations to discover Maine’s vibrant and unique ecosystem through a variety of outdoor activities.

“Ezra was a quintessential Maine outdoorsman, a dedicated community leader, and a wonderful friend,” said Senator King. “I am grateful to have known him, and the state of Maine is grateful for having had the privilege to call him one of our own. This newly dedicated land that bears Ezra’s name will continue his life’s work of advocating for and educating young people about Maine’s beautiful outdoors; I can think of nothing that would have made him happier.”

Kennebec Land Trust was established in 1988 and currently manages approximately 6,248 acres of land in central Maine. By protecting land for future generations, Kennebec Land Trust hopes to inspire future generations to learn about wildlife and conservation.
