King Applauds President’s Renomination of William Kayatta

Urges Senate Colleagues to Immediately Proceed to a Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus S. King, Jr. (I-Maine) applauded the President’s reactivation of William Kayatta’s nomination to the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals. The President originally nominated Kayatta in January 2012, but despite garnering the support of the Senate Judiciary Committee, his nomination did not proceed to a vote by the full Senate.

“I am pleased to learn that President Obama has renominated Bill Kayatta for a seat on the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals,” said Senator King.  “I closely followed his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee last year and had the opportunity to meet with him personally last week.  He is a brilliant lawyer who is extraordinarily well qualified and enjoys tremendous bipartisan support in Maine as well as from the Judiciary Committee after his first hearing last year.  In this new Congress, I urge my colleagues to expedite his nomination and quickly proceed to a confirmation vote.”
