King Announces Maine-Native Cashwell as Legislative Assistant for Energy and Environment Issues

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) announced today that he has hired Maine-native Morgan Cashwell as a Legislative Assistant in his Washington, D.C. office. Morgan will serve as Senator King’s principal advisor on energy and environment-related issues and will staff him for his work on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

“With her firsthand knowledge of Maine and her wealth of legislative experience, Morgan understands the energy challenges facing Maine and how we can work in Washington to fix them,” Senator King said. “I’m excited to welcome her to the team and look forward to working with her to help diversify Maine’s energy base and protect our state’s valued natural resources.”

“I couldn’t be happier to join Senator King’s office and work on behalf of my home state again,” Cashwell said. “As a member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Senator King has been working hard to advance Maine’s energy and environmental interests, and I look forward to supporting him in that work.”

Born in Calais, Maine, Morgan grew up in the towns of China and Winterport, and her family resides in Bangor today. She studied at Goucher College in Baltimore for her undergraduate degree and then earned her law degree at the City University of New York School of Law where she focused on public interest law. Morgan began working on public policy issues in Washington for Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) and most recently worked for Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-Florida-18) where she advised him on environmental policy and helped advance environmental restoration initiatives.

Morgan replaces Chris Rauscher who left in October to pursue work in the private sector.
