Collins, King Announce $15 Million Contract for Biddeford Firm for Work on Navy Facilities in Maine and Across New England

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that Oak Point Associates of Biddeford has been awarded a $15 million contract from the U.S. Navy for architectural and engineering services to support Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) projects at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery and other U.S. Navy facilities across New England. NAVFAC is responsible for managing the planning, design, and construction at shore facilities operated by the U.S. Navy.

            “Through this contract, Oak Point Associates will provide invaluable support services to our Navy that will help strengthen military installations across New England, like Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and bolster our Navy in the process,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “We applaud the Navy on its decision and congratulate the hardworking men and women at Oak Point Associates on this achievement.”

Under this contract, work done by Oak Point Associates, an architectural and engineering firm, will be performed at various Navy and other government facilities within the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic region, which ranges from Maine to North Carolina. According to the Navy, 75 percent of the work will be conducted in Maine, primarily at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, 10 percent in New Hampshire, 5 percent in Vermont, 5 percent in Massachusetts, and 5 percent within other areas of NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic responsibility.

Projects funded under this contract will include a variety of engineering and design services from Oak Point Associates, including building construction, general building renovation work, conducting life safety code studies, interior space planning and design studies, engineering and design site work, paving, landscaping, communications, fire protection, energy conservation systems, utilities, and facility planning.

The contract was awarded on a competitive basis, with Oak Point Associates being selected from a total of 11 proposals. The expected completion date of the contract is May 2021.

Oak Point Associates is an interdisciplinary design and consulting organization that provides a wide range of architectural, engineering, and planning services, and has locations in Biddeford, Maine, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The company previously won a $10 million contract to design and engineer improvements at East Coast naval facilities in 2014.

Senator Collins is a senior member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee and Senator King is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
