King Applauds Senate Intelligence Committee’s Expected Review of Russian Involvement in U.S. Election

CARIBOU, ME – In response to an announcement that the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence will conduct a review of Russia’s interference in the U.S. election, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine), a member of the Committee, released the following statement:

“I welcome the Chairman’s announcement that the Senate Intelligence Committee will pursue a thorough and expeditious review of Russia’s involvement in our election. It is unacceptable to allow a foreign government to interfere in the American electoral process. This review will be central to understanding the scope of their involvement and will provide Congress with crucial information that can help prevent this from happening again. For me, this is not about the last election. This is about the next election – and it’s about protecting and preserving the integrity of American democracy.”

“I also continue to hope that, to the greatest extent possible, our Committee can make information available to the American people because the first line of defense against intrusions like these is an educated and vigilant public.”
