Collins, King Announce More Than $1 Million for Maine Housing Initiatives

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that NeighborWorks America, a public nonprofit organization established by Congress, has awarded grants to five organizations in Maine totaling $1,113,925. The funding will support efforts to revitalize and sustain Maine communities, provide affordable housing, and create and maintain local jobs.

“For many low-income people in Maine, having the ability to obtain affordable housing often makes the difference between having a roof over their head or not,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This funding will support individuals and families in Maine by helping them to attain housing within their means, all while building stronger communities in the process.”

NeighborWorks America is a public nonprofit organization, originally established by Congress in 1978 as the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation. It provides financial and grant support, training, technical assistance, technology tools and other services to a network of over 245 local and regional non-profit partner organizations.

Below is a list of the five Maine organizations and the grant funding that each will receive through this investment:

  • Avesta Housing Development Corporation, $454,695
