King Statement on the Anniversary of September 11th

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King released the following statement on the 12th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks:

“Twelve years ago, on this solemn day, our nation suffered a tragedy of incalculable magnitude when the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent Americans were tragically cut short by deplorable and heinous acts of violence.

“Twelve years hence, we join together in remembrance of those we lost and in honor of those, like our extraordinary first responders, whose unmatched courage and heroism saved countless lives.

“While we will always look back upon that terrible day with sorrow-laden hearts, we should also recall with great pride how we, in the midst of our darkest hour, stood shoulder to shoulder in unwavering support of one another. For it was in that most trying time that our character as a nation was severely tested, and rather than falter in the face of unspeakable tragedy, we came together as a people to demonstrate to the world the irrepressible American spirit and our unmistakable strength of our character. Both continue to bind us together to this day and they will, undoubtedly, forever drive us forward as a nation.”
