King Statement on Bowdoin College President’s Decision to Step Down

BRUNSWICK, ME – In response to Bowdoin College President Barry Mills’ announcement today that he intends to step down following the conclusion of the 2014-2015 academic year, U.S. Senator Angus King released the following statement:

“Barry has dedicated much of his life and professional career, including his thirteen years at the helm of Bowdoin, to seeing that students from all walks of life and from all across the globe have the opportunity to obtain a world-class education that prepares them to become leaders in today’s ever-changing society. While I am saddened by his announcement today, I am grateful for his countless contributions to Bowdoin and to the great State of Maine. And on a personal level, both Mary and I will miss Barry and Karen as such vital parts of the Bowdoin and Brunswick communities. They have been trusted advisors and wonderful friends to our entire family. Indeed, I join with the entire college community in thanking him for his outstanding leadership and service.”
