King Applauds Maine Entrepreneurs and Innovators, Says Best Days Are Ahead

FREEPORT, ME – This morning, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) delivered the keynote address at the Envision Maine Summit in Freeport. His remarks entitled, “A Moment of Opportunity for Maine’s Economy” focused on how Maine’s entrepreneurs and innovators can help to build a powerful, next-generation economy that can create and sustain jobs within the state.

“What’s the key to economic growth? It’s a question I’ve been thinking about for more than 35 years. Some would say the answer is all policy based, but as I’ve thought about it more and more, I’ve come to really believe it’s about leadership. It’s about entrepreneurship. It’s about having the vision, passion, creativity, and flexibility to start with nothing but an idea and build it into something real,” Senator King said. “I think that’s the most essential element of economic growth. And it’s something we have a lot of here in Maine. I see it every day in the businesses I visit. We are a state of entrepreneurs and innovators, and as long as we continue to work together and seize that spirit, then our best days are ahead.”

The Envision Maine Summit is an inspiring one-day gathering of government, business, and industry leaders to share and explore ideas and actions to help build Maine’s next economy. Senator King recently toured several advanced manufacturers, including Biovation, IDEXX, and most recently, Kennebec Technologies.
